The first thing people usually get to know about me when I meet them is that I really like dogs (often followed by me forcing people to look at pictures of mine). However, dogs really aren’t that great – they destroy their toys, they eat things they should not be eating, they love to get dirty, they whine, they get sick, and they need tons of attention. So why the hell do I love that little fluffer so much?
As some of you know, I am quite a busy person. I lead the Creative Writing Group at my school, I am part of the writing mentor programme, I am in the board of a students’ association and I am a member of another one. Besides that I am a full-time student, try to maintain my friendships as well as I can and update this blog at least once a week. “How the hell do you do it all?” is a question I have been asked more than once. Well, my friends, the answer is simple: preparation.
Ever since this academic year started my life has changed drastically. Not only did I take over the Creative Writing Group, but I also became a part of two student organisations – and recently I even became part of the board of one. It’s been busy, and I haven’t been home all that much. As fun as it has been, however, I still prefer staying in over going out.
When I was about six years old, I used to spend a lot of time at my grandmother’s house. There, she had VHS versions of what seemed to little me as every single Disney movie imaginable, and I would spend entire afternoons watching them. One of the movies that stole my heart back then was Beauty and the Beast. This is the movie that got me into reading from a very young age, and it has shaped my life up until now.
